It's Been Forever!

So it's been forever!

I seriously had to sit and think for a second about how to get to the blogger dashboard. Sad. I know.

Well, where have we been??? What's been going on here in "The City"???

I've posted on Instagram (@takingtimeinthecity) here and there, but I haven't even been super active on that even. There have been two major factors to my absence:

First, Little Man has given up naps. :-( I've tried and tried to get him to take them still, but, sadly, they seem to be a thing of the past. I did most of my blogging, social networking, etc. while he was napping, so I just haven't figured out when to get it done. It's hard for me to be on the computer too long while he's awake. He likes to take the opportunity of me sitting at the computer to use me and the chair as a jungle gym. Yeah. So we're working through figuring that out.

And here's the second reason...
{and really the main factor here, I think}
That's right! We're expecting another Little One at the end of May! We're super excited. Little Man is the most excited of us all and is really hoping for a little sister. He gives the baby/my tummy hugs and kisses all the time. Such a sweet kid. :-)

While I haven't gotten sick like I did with Little Man, I have been totally exhausted, nauseated, and had some other trouble that required a short hospital stay. Everything is fine and dandy now, though. The baby is growing just as it should be and is looking nice and healthy. We'll find out if it's a sister or a brother toward the end of January!

I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things and have some fun things to share.

See you again soon!

Magnetic Chalkboard Calendar

It's just what it sounds like: a calendar that is also a chalkboard.

I've seen fun calendars painted on walls and have always thought they were awesome, but since we're in an apartment now I didn't want to do that to the walls.

Then I had an idea!
Why not paint a piece of metal with chalkboard paint and then hang it all the wall?

And so the Magnetic Chalkboard Calendar was born.

I just painted a piece of metal with chalkboard paint and then painted a calendar grid over the chalkboard paint once it had dried/cured.

It's a fun way for us to keep track of upcoming events, appointments and even bills to be paid.

And it looks pretty cool next to the desk if I do say so myself!

I hope you're having a great week!

{Recycled} Baby Blanket Quilt

So your baby is growing and growing and can no longer fit in his or her baby blankets. What do you do with them? You could donate them or sell them, but I think there's something a little sentimental about a baby blanket. PLUS my Little Man still loves how they feel (so soft!), so I know he would love to keep using them.

The solution? Make a bigger blanket from the blankets. Whoa. I know. Genius!

I started with a few of my little guy's baby blankets,
(and a few scraps of a similar type of fabric)
and cut as many squares as I could.
Then I laid them out and sewed them all together using a zig zag stitch.

You can see that I just overlapped the edges so you can see the seams.

Here's another close up.

I folded the edges around the blanket over and finished them off by hemming them.
And that was it!

Now Little Man can still enjoy those baby blankets.

Thanks for stopping by!

Mud, Mud, MUD!!!

Mud.

It's a useful thing, right?

People have even used it to help build things all around the world. It can be an amazing thing.

It can also be a catalyst to a few simple moments of just plain fun.

Grandpa even got in on the fun...
Boys. :-)

I'm soooo glad I listened to that little voice of mother's intuition and grabbed Little Man extra clothes and shoes that day. Not sure what made me do it, but we can all see they were very needed!

{Beautiful Things}

We went camping about a month ago, and I have to say that the beauty that God has created never ceases to amaze me. What an artist He is! Here are some of the views we enjoyed. I hope you enjoy them too.
