Holiday Countdown Chain

This time of year can be busy, busy, busy! Along with one holiday after another, we also have Little Man's birthday in early January. This year, we're throwing a little more into the mix with a move to our new home in November! It's going to be a crazy few months.

I thought it'd be fun to have a visual, so we made this Holiday Countdown Chain.

Each link has a date and certain days are decorated appropriately. It was quick and easy to make and a fun way to countdown the days until some of the major events coming up for us.

Would you like to make your own chain? You can download a PDF counting down until Christmas here. We cut each link at about 1.5 inches wide.

(There is a blank space after Thanksgiving. We did this intentionally so that we could use different colored paper for the Christmas section of the countdown.)

A Year Later

Life is crazy.
Life is busy.
Life changes so fast.

A year ago today I took this picture on our way to the vet. Little did I know it would be the last picture I took of our sweet Beau and the start of probably the most difficult year of our lives.

I could write about all the "bad" things in great detail...losing our dog, having kidney issues during pregnancy, Little Brother having some health issues when he was first born, a difficult delivery, feeling lonely away from family, having a hard, and on and on it could go.

Most recently, we were having a hard time finding a house to buy. The market where we live is just crazy. There just isn't enough supply for the demand. There have been houses go on the market in the morning and by early afternoon, they already had several offers on the table. After our fourth failed attempt at a home, I found myself asking God why things couldn't just go "right" for us. This year has been so hard, why can't this one thing go "right"? But then I realized...

I was really asking why things weren't going MY way not the RIGHT way.

Because His way is always the right way.

I felt like a two year old throwing a fit. When was I going to remember that God has it all in control. He is faithful, He has a plan for us, and we can trust Him.

This morning, when I realized it had been a year since I took that picture, it got me thinking about all that's happened since then, all we've been through, how much we've learned and have grown.

It may not have been the smoothest pregnancy on record, but God's hand was with us. We are both safe and healthy and maybe even a little stronger after going through a little difficulty.

A little loneliness was the nudge we needed to go outside our comfort zone to make friends. Anyone who's met either my husband or I for more than two minutes could tell you that we're both introverts. I can write and type until my fingers fall off, but I'm not a big talker. Over the past year, though, God has brought people into our lives that we're thankful to call friends. We're already more involved in our church and have met more people there than we did in the over seven years that we attended our previous church.

Yesterday, our offer was accepted and we are now under contract to buy our new home. The timing is perfect with our lease ending, we'll still be in a great school district, and it has more room than we thought we'd be able to find.

And so I sit here a year after taking that picture and am thankful.

I'm thankful that we're a healthy family of four.
I'm thankful for new friends.
I'm thankful for a wonderful church.
I'm thankful for God's plans.
I'm thankful that this may have been one of the BEST years of our lives.

You have to admit, God knows what He's doing.
Trust me, you can trust Him.

"Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock."
Isaiah 26:4 ESV

"Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation."
Isaiah 12:2 ESV
